Governance

Oakwood Friends School is under the care of New York Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends and is governed by a volunteer Board of Managers composed of Quakers, Oakwood alumni, current parents, and "at large" community members. A simple majority of the Board must be members of the Society of Friends. The Board meets four times each year, and subcommittees meet more frequently. The Board is charged with sustaining and furthering the mission of the School, providing for its financial health, acting as stewards of its assets and resources, and planning for the School's future. The Board is responsible for hiring, supporting, and evaluating the Head of School, who in turn works closely with the Board and is responsible for the School's day-to-day operations.

Oakwood Friends School is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational institution, chartered by the New York State Board of Regents, and accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools. It is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the Friends Council on Education, and a number of local and regional organizations.
