Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie, NY Admissions at Oakwood Friends School
Oakwood Friends seeks to enroll students who are academically motivated, exhibit strong character, and are eager to engage.

Information Sessions

Information Sessions provide a wonderful way for families to meet students, faculty and administration and to learn more about the Oakwood Friends community. Sessions are held in Collins Library, alternately on Wednesdays and Sundays. They begin with an introduction to the school by Peter Baily, Head of School, and Anna Bertucci, Assistant Head for Academics and Student Life. Questions are invited and answered by students and/or faculty. Student-led tours follow and provide an additional opportunity to learn about daily life at Oakwood Friends. We encourage you to contact the Office of Admissions if you plan to attend an Information Session.

How To Apply To Oakwood Friends

The goal of the admissions process is to ensure a good fit between the student and Oakwood Friends School. We attend to each individual application with great care and work closely with families throughout the process.

Students are encouraged to apply by April 1st; however, we will accept applications after that date if space permits. Applications for mid-year transfer students are considered through February 15th.

Following are the steps in the admissions process:

  1. The family requests information about the school by contacting the Admissions Office through our website or directly by phone (800-843-3341) or e-mail (admissions@oakwoodfriends.org).
  2. If possible, the family attends an Information Session or makes an appointment to visit campus for a tour and to meet with admissions staff.
  3. The family completes the application and mails it to the Admissions Office with the $40 application fee. We accept the TABS Application for Admission as well as our own.
  4. Using the Transcript Release Form, the family contacts the student's current school for official transcripts for the current year and previous two years. Those transcripts should be mailed directly from the student's school to the Office of Admissions.
  5. The student distributes the OFS recommendation forms to his/her current math and English teachers. The student gives the Personal Recommendation Form to an adult who knows him/her well. The individuals writing those recommendations should mail them directly to the Office of Admissions.
  6. Once all application materials have been received by the Admissions Office, we will contact the student to arrange a day visit. We encourage all applicants to spend a day on campus, sitting in on classes and meeting students and faculty. During that visit, the student will be interviewed by admissions staff and complete a brief writing sample.

In addition to the requirements above, international students must submit official scores from the TOEFL or SLEP test and a bank reference showing sufficient funds for the student's tuition and living expenses. If the student is unable to visit campus, we will arrange for a telephone interview.
