Detailed Process for Applying

In order to apply to Oakwood Friends School, an applicant for grades 6 – 8 must complete the following steps:
  • Parents complete the first two pages of the 6th – 8th Grade Application.
  • The student completes pages three and four of the application, the short answer and essay question, in his/her own handwriting.
  • Return the entire application with the application fee of $50.
  • 6th grade applicants only: the student’s 5th grade teacher completes the 5th Grade Teacher Recommendation Form and returns it directly to the Office of Admissions.
  • 7th and 8th grade applicants: the student’s current math and English teachers complete the Math and English Teacher Recommendation Forms and return them directly to the Office of Admissions.
  • Applicants for grades 6 – 8: the Personal Recommendation Form is completed by an adult outside the family who knows the applicant well. The recommender returns the form directly to the Office of Admissions.
  • Parents sign the Transcript & Testing Release Form and mail it to the guidance counselor at the applicant’s current school. If the student attended a different school during the previous two years, the parent sends a signed copy of the form to that school as well. This form authorizes the guidance counselor(s) to send transcripts and test results to the Office of Admissions. The Guidance Counselor completes the bottom portion of the Transcript & Testing Release Form and mails it with official transcripts directly to the Office of Admissions. Required transcripts include the current year (in progress) and the final transcript for the previous two years.
  • Candidates for the Learning Skills Program submit educational testing completed within the past three years. The testing must include test scores as well as a narrative explanation of test results. Candidates also submit the most recent IEP or 504 Plan, if applicable.
  • The applicant has a day-long campus visit during which s/he shadows a student through classes, meetings, lunch, etc. and interviews with the Head of the Middle School.
In order to apply to Oakwood Friends School, an applicant for grades 9 – 12 must complete the following steps:
  • Parents complete the first two pages of the 9th – 12th Grade Application. In lieu of Oakwood Friends School’s own application, we also accept the SSAT Application or the TABS Application. (The SSAT itself is not required for admission.) If the student applies with the SSAT or TABS application, s/he must also submit Oakwood Friends' Transcript & Testing Release Form.
  • The student completes the application essay in his/her own handwriting.
  • Return the entire application with the application fee of $50.
  • The applicant’s current math and English teachers complete the Math and English Teacher Recommendation Forms and return them directly to the Office of Admissions.

In order to apply to Oakwood Friends School, an international student applicant for grades 9 – 12 must complete the following steps. Please note that all documents must be submitted in English.
  • Parents complete the first two pages of the 9th – 12th Grade Application. In lieu of Oakwood Friends School’s own application, we also accept the SSAT Application or the TABS Application. If the student applies with any application other than Oakwood Friends’ own, s/he must also submit our Supplemental Information Form.
  • The student completes the application essay in his/her own handwriting.
  • Upon receipt of the application, the Admissions Office will send instructions for accessing peerTransfer for payment of the $75 application fee.
  • The student submits scores on the TOEFL or TOEFL Jr. Oakwood Friends School’s code for ETS is 3468.
  • The applicant’s current math and English teachers complete the Math and English Teacher Recommendation Forms and return them directly to the Office of Admissions.
  • The Personal Recommendation Form is completed by an adult outside the family who knows the applicant well. The recommender returns the form directly to the Office of Admissions.

  • Per SEVIS regulations, the parent submits a bank reference showing sufficient funds to cover the cost of an Oakwood Friends education.
  • The applicant interviews with a member of the Admissions staff. Students unable to visit campus for an interview will interview through Skype.
