Oakwood Parents' Association

The mission of the Oakwood Parents' Association (OPA) is to create and sustain an informative and collaborative network in order to enhance communication among parents and the school, and to enrich the OFS community. As the parent or guardian of an Oakwood student you are automatically a member of the Parents' Association. And while so many of us do not live near the school, or even on the same continent, please know there are countless ways to get involved. We hope you will join us in whatever way your availability, location and interests allow. Please feel free to reach out to us for more information and to get involved!

OPA Committees

Ambassadors Committee

The Ambassadors Committee is responsible for helping new and returning families to feel welcome and connected to the Oakwood community. Committee members serve as friendly faces at school events such as Orientation, Breakfast with the Head, Parent Dinners, Parents’ Day, et al.

Annual Fund Committee

The members of this committee work with the Development to seek gifts from other parents in support of the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund directly supports important programs including classroom initiatives, faculty development, scholarships and guest lecturers/special events.

Wine Dinner/Auction Committee

The annual Parent Dinner & Auction will be held on Saturday, January 27 at Locust Grove – Samuel Morse Historic Site. Proceeds from the event support Oakwood’s Annual Fund. Committee responsibilities include obtaining items for the auction, helping to market and publicize the event, and encouraging attendance through outreach to parents and the wider community. Committee meetings are held 1-2 times per month from October through January. The clerk of this committee will be selected at the first meeting.

Grade Level Representative 

Volunteers work with the school to maximize communication both by reaching out to families about events, such as Parent Dinners, Breakfast with the Head, OPA meetings etc. We would love to have two volunteers per grade. Grade level Reps will be in contact with the OPA Steering Committee.

Host Family Program 

Oakwood has boarding students from around the country and across the globe. Families who host a boarder for a weekend, a holiday break, an overnight, or even a Thanksgiving meal offer a nice change of scenery to the student. Families always report back that they find this to be an enriching experience.

Middle School Committee

In addition to acting as Ambassadors (reaching out to other MS parents re: Parent Dinners, Breakfast with the Head etc), committee members support the Middle School with community building activities and events.

Newsletter and Social Media Committee

Share your writing, graphic design and/or web design skills in the creation of the OPA newsletters and/or the website. We are looking to build out the newsletter and to expand our presence on the Oakwood website/social media and need your help and expertise. Any skills and/or time you can lend are greatly appreciated!

Staff Appreciation Week

Work with the school to plan and carry out events for staff appreciation week in the spring (a faculty breakfast, cards from students/parents, etc.). Volunteers will meet once or twice in April and are needed to help in a more limited capacity (e.g. baking for the breakfast, etc.).
