Health and Safety

Health and Safety at Oakwood Friends SchoolOakwood’s 24/7 on-call nurse steps in on those days when students are not feeling well. Our health center is equipped with an infirmary with several beds for students to rest until pick-up. The nurse checks up on sick or injured boarding students by their bedside in the evenings and at dinner. The nurse also communicates the needs and health status of boarding students clearly to on staff evening administrators and dorm parents to ensure they continue quality care and regular check-ups throughout the night.

Oakwood also has a full-time school counselor who lives on campus. She is very friendly and personable, available to any student who might need her support socially and emotionally. Her door is always open and confidentiality is always respected.

As an Oakwood student, safety is not a concern. Oakwood has an excellent relationship with our local fire and police departments. In fact we are neighbors! The fire department is across the street from our campus. In the case of an emergency, first responders have a response time that’s less than two minutes! With a school nurse on 24/7 to ensure student are healthy throughout the day and evenings. There are two excellent hospitals only six minutes away from the school. You can rest assure that students are in a safe place and will be well taken care of.

There are always multiple forms of adult supervision present on campus for the safety of our students. Every night there is a dorm parent on duty in each dormitory. There is also an Administrator On Duty (AOD) every night who is on call 24/7 by cell phone. All students, faculty, and parents are given the AOD number and can contact this person for any emergency. In addition, we have night watchman who patrol the campus throughout the night, ensuring buildings are secure and the campus is safe.
